Making every season beautiful in this small garden space
Cherry Ong has been sharing with us the little side - yard garden in her Richmond , British Columbia , garden . She calls the space the Fern Fairway , and she ’s shown us how it looks during the warm calendar month of the yr ( The Fern Fairway in Summer ) . Today she ’s deal how it looks in wintertime .
Last calendar month I wanted to pass some time horticulture , so the side yard was tidy up up and some winter cheer add .
For the first trough , I set aside all deciduousfernsfor their well - earned wintertime rest and grouped together some evergreen unity , then tucked in metal fronds and stems from nearbyLeucothoeplus a couple of stems of rose hips for color and the bird .

I bonk how it wrick out . It ’ll help keep my spirits up in the winter .
For the other manger , I used foraged greenery and a few coloured and rough-textured elements for some color and pinnacle . I deconstructed and loosened an inexpensive grapevine wreath and hung it on the fencing for contribute interest .
I moved fuchsia to a more sheltered location for the hummingbird and put up hatful withGaultheria(Zones 3–8 ) and licorice fern(Polypodium glycyrrhiza , zone 5–8 ) with sprigs ofSkimmia(Zones 6–8 ) from the garden to replete the gap .

The sprig will last a foresighted time in the cool winter weather condition and look like they are growing out of the pot .
The gardener’swreaththat hangs this time of year holds a special retention for me !
It ’s always good to be out in the garden . sunshine !
