It ’s funny how much things can change without us noticing . Cute little spruce Tree turn up into imposing specimens thatencroach on their surroundings . Wooden building brave over time and require a refreshed pelage of key . immense mountain of rocks ( and who make out what else ) disappear under years of Gunter Grass and leaves .
Yes , believe it or not , on my farm there is a deal of rocks , of ostensibly unacceptable size , that has all but disappeared under the ground . That ’s a good thing most of the time , except when you ’re trying to act in the area and you keep encountering concealed rocks and their man - made companions . ( More on that in a moment . )
The stone pile was created decades ago by the original owners of the farm , who cleared the rocks from the fields and piled them along the edges in long , jolty rows . Some of these piles are still clearly visible , but this one — which ran parallel to a fence that no longer exists — is all but invisible today , buried under the grunge created by tenner of grass , folio and similar material .

However , its influence is still widely felt . The long pile of rocks has leave a little but obtrusive jut in the ground , and the top of individual sway still jut out of the dry land in various billet , making it hard to cut down the Gunter Grass . And when I’vetried to dig up one rock , well , permit ’s just say I ’ve establish the pile pretty quickly and wound up removing more rock than I ’d bargain for .
But perhaps the wildest disclosure touch this hidden rock pile came a few month ago . For many years , a walking path has around followed the rock pot , and years of walking have eroded the ground to the point that particular buried in the soil are starting to come forth . For the most part , these items have been sway ( of course ) and tree diagram ancestor , but this year the ground commence growing bricks .
Bricks !

While only the corners have emerged so far ( and I ’ve done no excavation to investigate further ) , it ’s already clear that these brick are similar or identical to the onesI find nestled next to a pine tree last yr . Now my curiosity has been trip and questions bristle . Why are bricks evidently piled alongside the rocks ? How long have they been there ? And if there are bricks , what else might be bury there ?
lie with how the previous farm owner liked to use haemorrhoid of rocks as places to keep all sorts of random token ( part from an old Model T , anyone ? ) , I guess I should n’t be surprised by these bricks , but I am intrigued . While more productive farming task must take precedency over any mystery - solving excavation delegation , I do plan to do some digging in the future to learn more about this “ sink gem . ”
Besides , I would n’t want anyone to spark off on the corners of the bricks .
