The change of seasons is nearly here , and Mr. B and I are thrilled about what that means for us and our farm . To be honest , though , there ’s a lot of employment we want to do with our land that ’s been put on cargo hold due to planning for our forthcoming wedding and the acute late - summer heat and humidity that make doing anything but sitting on the porch with a frigid glassful of iced Camellia sinensis seem foolish . Still , Mother Nature knows nothing about breaks and is work her art in the meadows and forests while we woolgather away of the projects to arrive . Rachael Brugger
Up on the brow pasture whereour beeslive — what we call “ The Bee Hill”—goldenrod has sprung to living . Not quite yet in bloom , I ’m seem forward to the moment when the yellow flowers break through their bud , painting the the landscape a warm tincture of gold that will radiate in the light of the sunset . After the summer dearth , it ’s terrific to see swath of people of color again — ironweed , ageratum ( picture ) and butterfly milkweed are all demonstrate their faces — and know that bees have a nectar source as they prepare their stores for the upcoming winter . On the east side of our property , which is predominantlyforestland , leaves are threatening to begin their variety . It ’s still a moment too soon for the fall modulation to completely take over , but I ’m beginning to see specks of yellow and red and nut case are starting to fall to the ground , give me hope that the end of heat and glitch bites is just around the recession . In the garden below The Bee Hill , I ’m looking onward to having a moment when I ’m not think about caterer and dress fittings so that I can navigate through the weeds and machinate our beds for spill . dripping tape left in plaza by the farm ’s former proprietor has been matte down by beautiful crazy growth and needs take out before I can get in to mow , till and perhaps plant acover cropbefore autumn ’s chill moves in for good . On the equipment front , Mr. B has fully encompass the role of farm mechanic . When our darling UTV and workhorse , “ Delia The Intimidator , ” function into problems a few week ago , he opened her up and has been nursing her back to wellness . Although a mechanically skillful applied scientist by trade , Mr. B had n’t had the opportunity to do a lot of at - habitation hangout until webecame farmers , but now he ’s always fiddling with something , and for that , I ’m super thankful . ( Mechanics are n’t exactly my strong suit . ) He should have Delia up and operate any mean solar day now , gratefully . We counter needing to tilt on her to serve us cleanse out the gardens and gear up our steep drive for the first snows of wintertime . Rachael Brugger
In accession to all the land projects we ’re devising , there ’s still a bunch of move - link employment left to do , even though we ’ve been living on the farm for several months now : article of furniture to be brought over , repairs to be made and other “ settling ” activities .

As you well know , there ’s always something to do on the farm , and there never seems to be enough time to get it done . It ’s funny , though , because I always had this mentality when living in the city — yet here on our new realm , things do n’t seem as rush . It ’s like the trees and pastureland are whispering to us : “ Do n’t worry , you have time . Take it easy . We ’ll still be here . ” Instead of dreading the chores we have before us , we thirstily give our full aid to them . balance the oeuvre with downtime number easier , and despite which one is use up our time , we ’re filled with love and gratitude for this berth , so it never seems like a burden . I never quite comprehend how move to a farm — where the work is harder and life is more knowing — could be weigh “ simple animation , ” but I think I ’m starting to empathize it a little well as we transition into this Modern season and new stage of our lives .
