This is the fourth dimension of the yr when we see the most snake .
I suppose that some of them hail out of the woods that surround us here when the pitcher’s mound start dry out .
Others seem to consider June the calendar month for honey , and they become more interested in romance and less concerned in hiding themselves .

We do n’t have too may poisonous snake here in Rapallo . I ’ve been hiking around in the woods here for eight year now , and I ’ve never even construe one , as hard as I might be trying .
The toxicant Hydra , called “ viperi ” are short , triangle - headed snakes . Some of them have horns on their snout , like the dangerousVipera ammodytes . I ’ve take heed of a few local sightings , but the viperi in ecumenical stay on the other side of the coastal mint .
But we do have a lot of other , non - toxicant snakes here . Most of them are call up “ bisce ” ( bee - she ) .

The first photo was taken in the creek in front of our house . I think this is aNatrix tessellate , do it as a river Hydra that eats rats and salientian . This one was really big , and I estimated it as over six base long . The head was Brobdingnagian , and sort of triangular in form .
Once I spotted it loaf on the camber , I scampered back to the mansion to get my camera and my snake identification template . Once I determined it was n’t vicious , I got near and take some prissy characterization before he ducked into the body of water and swam to the other side . Another glorious animal .
The second exposure was take by my acquaintance Louis Salmone in his garden . These two Snake are , I think , Coluber viridiflavus . These are the second most rough-cut snakes around here , and I see this specie frequently . They eat mice and the common lucertole lizards . These two flasher are about three feet long , but some of theColuberspecies grow even longer , sometimes up to seven foot !

The most commonly seen snakes here are the orbettini , the small legless lizard that look like Snake . Known as glass snakes , they areAnguis fragilis .
I credibly rescue one of these fellows at least once a month , as they seem to stop up on the steps to my bureau frequently . Unfortunately , the street is frequently tell apart with the flattened corpses of these little hombre .
The most exciting road killing I ever found here was the immense pea green lizard I found once . Even plane I could see that it was about three feet long including the tail . The head was a smart blue and the abdomen was chrome yellow . This striking lizard , Lacerta lepidais the largest lounge lizard in Europe , and looks like a slimmer Iguana iguana .
I ’ve seen live specimens of the cousin Ramaro ( copperhead),Lacerta viridisin the Wood a few times . reasonably exciting for me .
