Today ’s photos are form Verna Collett in Victoria , British Columbia . Verna says,“I’ve always been a gardener , having learned blossom names in my grandma ’s garden . We have an average metropolis fortune here in Victoria , and since we have dwell in the same house since 1963 , I have make and re - produce the garden several time , influence always to build up the gravelly dirt with amendments of compost , leaf mould , and so on .
“ Over the year , the trees have rise up and give lots of shade now . Coleus , genus Hosta , ferns , and begonia thrive . I have many clematis vines , Nipponese maples , hardy fuschia , and in the spring a in force show of bulb and hellebore . It ’s a bantam garden that aspires to be like Butchart ’s Garden ( the illustrious garden vitrine here in Victoria ) .
“ We do n’t do many veggie now that there are only two of us at home , but I have fill every potential space with prime . Each time I edge the bed , the lawn area shrinks more . Now that I have withdraw , I happen it potential to sow my own annual and I “ keep over ” geranium and fuschia cuttings in my little greenhouse .
“ A self-aggrandising focus for me now is establish containers — lots of them . I love planning the flush and foliage combos . My daughter brought me the former ladder , saying “ Mom can only go up with her garden now that all the heyday mete and beds are full ! ” Despite the many urban cervid ( cute but very sneaky ) who taste everything and eat even what they are suppose to avoid , we have lots of summer colour to delight from our deck of cards , which we summate when we did the reno on our small “ starter ” menage . ( We love the neighbourhood so much , it is go to be our “ finishing up ” home ! ) ”
