New year, new garden
Happy New Year ! It is your GPOD editor Joseph here , and today I ’m sharing some of my New Year ’s Resolutions … for my garden . Some thing that I ’m thinking I want do to in the garden this year .
What are yours ? We ’d enjoy to hear about them !
Learn to utilize my new cold frame . A neighbor was throw away old violent storm windows , so I grabbed them and used them to make myself a cold frame in the back garden . I ’m so unrestrained , I ’ve never had a stale frame before . So … I require to learn to make the most of it . Right now my plans admit using it to winter border - blood hardy plants , pressure bulbs , and get veggies for winter harvest . We ’ll see what all I can pull off .

A related to resolution … start my wintertime dinero earlier ! I built the cold frame belatedly and then sowed a bunch of thing in it . The bread here are growing great , but they are romane and I did n’t start them before long enough to head up before wintertime arrived . Next twelvemonth I ’m going to get my seminal fluid - bug out timing well ! The same applies to my Piper nigrum seedlings … I never get them go soon enough and end up with runty little plant to put out in the garden .
More fall interest ! This shooter is from my home office window , look out at the incredible sugar maple ( Acersaccharum , Zone 3 – 8) in my front yard . It looks awesome every fall . But the rest of the garden does n’t . I mean , I do have some things that count good in downslope , but not enough ! fourth dimension to fix that . I put in a bunch of aster last year … but the rabbit ate all of them . Time to enter something else out .
This photo is from Oklahoma State University Botanic Garden . I just loved this incredible originative container made from an old plough disk , and it is inspiring a resolving power to get more creative with my container this year , especially in combining them with cactus and succulent .

This beautiful rose bush is one I pass walking my dog through my neighborhood on a regular basis . It looks so astonishing ! So my resolution is to get one for my garden . But I do n’t love the variety , so I ’m function to have to encounter that neighbour , get the name , or see if they ’ll let me take cuttings .
Grow more penstemon ! This isPenstemonheterophyllus‘Zuriblau ’ bloom in my front garden last summer . I just sleep together the colour , and it seems to love my sandy grime . More ! More ! I want more penstemons!Penstemonhuge genus with century of metal money , all only native to North America , so lots and lots to search .
My last resolution is to take honest care of this terrarium I made . It was a lot of play to make , using some mini orchidaceous plant and moss , but I know that I typically am terrible about take upkeep of my houseplants once the outdoor gardening time of year gets underway . But not this year ! I ’m going to keep this water and happy !
