Today , the camellia suffer from modern heating system systems and ironic air – two things which they hate . out-of-door culture in the northeastward has not yet been hone . There is much excitement about new , hardy species come into the market from northern Korea and from eminent elevation sites in China and Japan , but most seem to be honest hardy to Pennsylvania and zone 7 . A few are surviving in Zones 5 and 6 , but only in particular sites .
This fall , my camellias are flower very ahead of time , most of my bathing tub were in blossom in February as I post earlier this year in acamellia round - up , but even some later eccentric are bug out to bloom . camelia are grouped into specific groups , stand for either their flower anatomy , they heritage or their type . There are sasanqua ’s , which mostly bloom in the autumn , and then there are camellia japonica ’s , species , and many more . My sasanqua types always bloom in November , but this season even has some japonica ’s blooming . InJanuary , many of these same plants were in blossom .
Camellias in Japan and China have a foresightful story in horticulture , many have been grown for as long as plants have been cultivated in pots , some of the first cultivated plant life by man admit the camelia in China , but even today , they flora is care for with the mellow of respect . In North America , the camelia is a popular landscape plant only in the mildest of climates , and any enough garden in southerly states like Mississippi , Louisiana , Georgia or westerly states like California and Oregon is not complete without a camelia tree blooming in the winter . For those of us in the north , the camellia is still an exotic plant , rarely see to it at all , either in the florist shops , or in the garden . I am on a personal mission to change that .
