Gardening in a new zone
Hi ! My name is Lisa and I ’m new to garden . I started with a bare yard when we move to Charlotte , North Carolina , from Toronto in 2017 — a whole Modern world in terms of gardening .
In 2020 , during the pandemic , the fourth dimension on my hands was spent mostly in the garden and an obsession was born . I quickly learned everything I could about plants and became acollectorof sorting . Then I had to find out to make that aggregation await somewhat cohesive . I also had to keep it animated !
One of my first sexual love — decorative grasses . I have always be intimate their movement and often regain they are an unsung wedge in the garden . I have the ‘ Morning Light ’ and ‘ Adagio ’ varieties of maiden over grass(Miscanthussinensis , Zones 5–9 ) . I also have some ‘ Karl Foerster’(Calamagrostis× acutiflora‘Karl Foerster ’ , Zones 5–9 ) mixed throughout . They add quickprivacyto a new garden .

One of my favourite , ‘ rise Sun’redbud(Cercis‘Rising Sun ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , flanks this garden by the pool . My limelights(Hydrangea paniculata‘Limelight ’ , zone 4–8 ) grow bigger each yr . I also add some ‘ Silver Mound ’ artemisia(Artemisia schmidiana‘Silver Mound ’ , Zones 4–8 ) , violet mealy sage(Salviafarinacea , Zones 8–10 or as an annual ) , and a prominent artichoke(Cynaracardunculus , Zones 7–10 or as an annual ) to keep thing interesting .
By my family I have liriope(Liriopemuscari‘Variegata ’ , Zones 5–10 ) , artemisia(Artemisia stelleriana‘Silver Brocade ’ , Zones 2–9 andArtemisia‘Powis Castle ’ , Zones 4–9 ) , ‘ Miss Molly ’ butterfly bushes(Buddleia‘Miss Molly ’ , Zones 5–9 ) , and curly parsley(Petroselinumcrispum)mixed throughout . It brings a host of swallowtails , hummingbirds , lizard , bee , and praying mantis . There is so much activity here !
I havelimelights(Hydrangea paniculata‘Limelight ’ , Zones 4–8 ) flanking my screened porch . In the summertime it is have sex as the “ hydrangea tree diagram theater , ” and we love it . It ’s a perfect office to nap and check bees and hummingbird fly about the flowers . Lizards make rest places in the flower heads .

Akitchen gardenis outside my screened porch . I haveherbs , kale , some Japanese Solanum melongena , strawberries , marigolds , and genus Petunia .
A trumpet vine(Campsisradicans , Zones 4–9 ) climbs on the walls . Its flowers always make for hummingbirds and bees .
