In a Vase on Monday. ‘We’ll Gather Lilacs in the Spring again…’

‘ We ’ll Gather Lilacs in the Spring again , And walk together down an English Lane . ‘   Ivor Novello .

I was go to have an agreement   today using just some beautiful fragrant Lilac . But I am incompetent of doing minimalist whether in a vase or in the garden .   I have to just summate a second of this and a moment of that . Today , I got carried away with sultry shades of purpleness . I wish them in a plain lily-white vase which shows off the flowers without shouting at them . Along with the lilacs I have used bronze fennel , Foeniculum vulgare‘Bronze Giant ’ , the perennial wallflower , Erysimum‘Bowles Mauve ’ , sprays of chocolateyAkebia pentaphylla , Honesty , Lunaria annuaand one twig of Lathyrus vernus . If my nance of the Night tulips were properly out I presume say some would have find there means in there too . As you see I have taken the photo outdoors using the handy birdbath to display them . Here they are inside where I hope they will last for a while because they smell marvelous . It is one of the scents which takes you straight back to your childhood . To make lilacs last in water system you have to move out all the leaves and singe the ending of the stalks . I think it is upright to condition them overnight in piss , but that is for people with more patience and foresightedness than me . I start off with an Ivor Novello quote and as as I am in a poetic mood today , I will finish with an exert from ‘ The Wasteland ’ by T.S.Eliot .

‘ April is the cruellest month , breedingLilacs out of the dead estate , mixingMemory and desire , stirringDull roots with spring rain . ’

in reality , this twelvemonth April has n’t been the cruellest calendar month , it has been strong and beautiful . Now it has turned a mo cool but we have had some lovely rain .

Thanks to Cathy atRamblinginthegardenfor hosting this meme which more and more mass are enjoying . Cathy is rambling further afield today , but nevertheless she has still managed to post a survival of her vessel . Do go and see what other people are putting in a vase on Monday .

Oh I adore this vase and I tally white with the purple is perfect….and then I saw you added the finocchio and was over the top … oh and I require that birdbath … fabulous !

Fabulous vase , Chloris !

A lovely empurpled arrangement , Chloris , and you ’re right , the white jug is perfect . I had to chuckle at your use of the shuttle bath to stage it … I ’ve thought of doing that on occasion but usually found somewhere else , I ’ll do it one day 🙂

I wish your musical arrangement and whole infer your commentary that you have a strong time being minimalist . I always come up it in particular difficult to stop adding thing . Perhaps we have looked too much at these Dutch XVIIth century paintings of flower arrangements .

I recover it difficult to stick with a minimalist pallet myself . Your lilac confection become out attractively and it looks good inside as well as out .

What a glorious purple fog Chloris ! That TS Eliot quote comes to me straightaway when I think lilacs Chloris , along with his “ slowly twisting the lilac straw ” simply because I canvass his ‘ Selected Poems ’ at school . The latter legal action of stalk twisting had and still has me bewildered . I mean that Ivor Novello ’s words are much more in tune with spring .

I always enjoy seeing your vases Chloris . I wish your ‘ more is more ’ access and how you always use scented flowers in your arrangements . I have a small - flowered lilac ( likely Syringa microphylla ) in my woodland border which is n’t yet flowering but once it gets going it extend throughout the summertime . It is deliciously scented and is one of my favourite loyalist which originally came from my mother ’s garden . Pouring with rain here – hurrah .
