Touring a beautiful garden
Bluepoppies ( Meconopsisbetonicifolia , Zones 5–7 ) are only growable in climates with very cool , mild summers — like Vancouver , where they thrive .
There are infinite form and colors of annual poppies ( Papaversomniferum , annual ) , but these brightly colored I are just marvelous . And of track theseedheadsthat come next are beautiful as well .
This shadypathis proof you do n’t demand a big expanse , sun , or even many flowers to make a beautiful garden . A marvelous tapestry of foliage , with a bluff , clean - variegatedhosta(Hostahybrid , Zones 3–8 ) catches the eye .

Somepeoniesare grow more for their pod than their flowers . This is one of the forest peonies ( probablyPaeoniajaponica , Zones 5–8 ) , which grows well in shade and has adorable ashen flowers in the spring followed by these dramatic seedpods that burst exposed to show their bright crimson in spite of appearance .
Foxtail lilies ( Eremurushybrids , Zones 5–8 ) produce these unbelievable spires of flowers in early summer . They ’re not hard to originate , but they lean to decompose in gravid , wet stain , so give them unspoiled drain to keep them glad .
I love this originative fencing , which visually divides the garden while still let you see through to the works on the other side . It looks to be made from old window frames and other regain / upcycled fabric .

California poppies ( Eschscholziacalifornica , annual ) usually come in a bright shade of orange , but these balmy , more pastel tones are marvelous also .
A rock garden side up to a spot to sit and take in the view .
I sleep with how the rich botany fills in around thispond , making it face like such a instinctive and seamless part of the landscape .

I think these spikes of intensely dyed flowers are the blooms of aDactylorhizaorchid .
