Freeze-damaged succulents; east Austin snow; Garden Posse
What a difference 48 hour make !
On Sunday , the sunshine was glaring down on this Narcissus ‘ Grand Primo . ” By tardy afternoon , all the bulbs were droop from the rut .
Two days later , it was drooping for another reason .

Narcissus ‘ Sweetness ’ is flowering in the den and French pancake beds . This heirloom jonquil from 1939 has reliably devolve for two years for me .
bounce mavin flowers ( Ipheion uniflorum ) are record up with gusto !
Along with their pastel blossoms , I like their strappy , low visibility winter foliation along pathways ( or even in them ) .

They ’re a good way to fill in spots where the perennial are reduce back , too , especially outstanding in heap . you may order bulbs in fall but I ’ve also go transplantation spring and fall at local nurseries .
Here ’s my survivingAgave celsiiin the snow . It ’ll make it this time . I ’ve already ignore back the freezing - damaged leaves . The agave and irises have turn so much that I ’m go the irises later to give the celsii ventilation and visual room .
Since emails about halt - damaged agaves and aloes make it daily , this workweek on CTG , Tom meets with Jeff Pavlat from theAustin Cactus & Succulent Society . Jeff bring along examples to assist identify what ’s truly gone and what just require some pruning and time .

This one ’s gone . Probably anAgave titanota .
If you ’re looking for cold hardy agaves , check out hiscomprehensive leaning for details . And get more information , include events and meetings , at the ACSS site .
Here are two result to get personal advice and to bring or substitute succulents and cacti . The Austin Cactus & Succulent Society holds itsspring show and sales agreement on April 10 & 11 . The San Antonio Cactus & Xerophyte Society holds itsshow and sale April 22 - 24 .

On tour , Ed Fuentes and I spent an afternoon and evening withThe Garden Posse . This passionate , energetic group of gardener scouts out leave out spot and become them into garden overnight .
In some cases , like the Cherrywood garden they add the nighttime we taped , the neighborhood chemical group asked for their help . While we were taping , neighbour strolling by or riding bikes raced home and come back with pecker from their sheds to aid . In a church garden , the parishioner were so thrilled that they nominate each watermelon vine as it ripened ! Mainly , the Garden Posse is reaching out to their community of interests and doing what they can to make it good , one little flora at a time .
Over the years , I ’ve watched main projects , vicinity comic strip , and school garden come and go . Some are fugacious and quickly return to their Bermuda grass root once the team leader move on to other effort .

At the same time , I have it away that each one made a persistent impression . A child take the memory to adulthood and plants a garden . A neighborhood starts to borrow ideas to try at dwelling . As the Garden Posse enjoin , they know some of these gardens wo n’t be around forever . But the philosophy that they ’re planting is one that will .
I thank Marshall Escamilla from The Unbearables for allowing us to utilize his original music compositions !
This week , Daphne explains what “ woody perennial ” means , and John Dromgoole has great tips for planting and observe your container plant .
