Last Saturday it short take place to me that after workweek of move plants around and the twist of a privateness screen , my garden was finallylooking sound . And it would stay that way through July 4 , when a slew of old acquaintance would be gathering for our yearly reunion .
Plus , the prognosis for the weekend was staring – high ’ fourscore , depleted humidness , and no opportunity of pelting . So I figured why not invite neighbors to see my garden ’s progress and mayhap get some ideas . The inviting take about 5 minutes via local Yahoo and Facebook radical , and the next afternoon local gardener and gardener - wannabees stopped by and made those speech sound of approval and delight that gardeners frankly fuck to hear .
I took short letter of some of their favorite plants and garden spots , and here are the ones I could hear and remember . I like their discernment .

This little space between the porch and the secrecy screen my neighbor build seemed to be everyone ’s preferent part of the garden . The vine is Bignonia ( Crossvine ) and the groundcovers are Creeping Jenny on the remaining and Sedum takesimense on the right .
Not long ago I put up pic of it to this blog , demand for suggestion , andgot some keen one . Next I postedphotos before and after staining the screen that forest green .
write about this spot prompted me to find the “ before ” photo from the dip of 2011 when I buy the house . It was filled with scruffy , misshapen azalea and some weeds .

Another smear citizenry stopped to comment on was in front of this pot of coleus – such a gorgeous color , they exclaimed ! Yes indeed , and that ’s just one plant .
More coleus containers people commented on .
Now about the Tibetan prayer flags . I hung them to give the back yard extra screening while the four Cryptomerias are growing up , and now that they ’re tattered and faded , I ’ve come to sleep together them . Turns out , I ’m not the only one .

And here ’s the entry to the garden from the rear sidewalk ( interior , backyard sidewalks are iconic here in Historic Greenbelt , MD , and unique among design communities , I ’m told ) . On the left is the aforementioned privacy screen that I ’ll stain dark-green to equal the other one as soon as the woodwind has dry out a bit . It ’s in the same style as the one my neighbor built , only shorter and more open .
I had a wonderful clock time during the Open Garden just meeting , greeting , and talking gardening , and was delighted to be post the link tothis web log postabout my garden from one of camera - maintain visitant , who pass to be a local blogger . The brightness was so harsh , I did n’t look her to get any comely shooter but she used her close - up lens to charge scenes I never even see . What nurseryman does n’t love seeing their garden from someone else ’s eye and camera viewfinder ?
Open Gardens are with child

Casual Open Garden events are so easy , so societal , and really helpful to new and experienced gardens alike – that ’s the pitching I made to the residential area when I invited them to this one and encourage them to host their own . Three citizenry have already declared their purpose to do it . Sure , they ’ll wait until their garden looks its right , and the atmospheric condition forecast favourable but hey , they intend ! I maintain refreshments down to the easiest potential offering – lemonade , nuts and grapes .
Anybody else ever put on an Open Garden event , or go to one ? Thoughts , mesmerism ?
