Spring in Virginia

Today we ’re off to Yorktown , Virginia , where Cathy Thacker is sharing a flowery display in her front yard .

This white garden cart is locate in the front yard of my house in Yorktown , Virginia . In the handcart are pot pansies(Viola× wittrockiana , cool season yearly ) . Around it , phlox(Phloxsubulata , Zones 3–9 ) from last year return to bloom with the fall planting of tulips . tulip in this area are considered yearly and have to be replanted every fall .

Whiskey barrel with tropicalMandevillaon both sides of the cart welcome warm conditions . As live summer temp take over , I will be replacing the pansies with vincas(Catharanthusroseus , one-year ) , anddahliaswill be replacing the tulips .

The cart makes a courteous focal point to this planting , which includes the lenient , wonderful colors of spring .

The phlox plant around the fundament is a perennial that will overspread more each year to make a flat solid ofspring flowersand a obtuse carpeting of green foliage the respite of the year to set off theannualsin the handcart and whiskey - barrelful planter .

This tight aspect shows thepansiesin containers fix on top of the cart . Growing them this style makes it easy to change them out for more heat - tolerant prime once summer go far .

The view from the back exhibit the phlox beginning to spill over into the drive , a exhibit that will keep getting better with each passing year .
