Red will be go to a young family soon .

Last night was a grueling night . I lastly made a conclusion I had been struggling with for month : It was clip to give up my quarter horse cavalry , Red .

article-post

Red come to us about four years ago , when his proprietor , Kim and Mike , became overwhelmed with their responsibilities of manage for a traveling caressing zoo , which lie of chicken , squealer , Capricorn andponies — a overplus of animals that needed a muckle of time and attention .

Red , who was 18 at the time , was n’t get as much attention as he needed . While the quartern horse was well cared for , he was n’t being ride . Red spent most of his meter standing around eating and dormancy , which was ok by him but did n’t posture well with Kim .

About two years ago , Kim and Mike proceed a few Admiralty mile away to a larger , 3 - acre parcel in a rural community of interests . They sold the petting zoo and settle into their beautiful new home with their two horse .

When Kim give me Red four year ago , she asked me to let her know if the twenty-four hour period ever come when I could n’t keep him . I could n’t fathom such a day , but always retrieve her words . Last night , I asked her to take him back .

Urban farmers like me are facing hard times : Because the monetary value of hay has rocket , it costs double as much to fertilize stock as it did a few long time ago . Horses are being desolate all over California because owner ca n’t yield to bung them . Livestock rescues are full of owner - relinquished sawhorse , and more than one horse has been found wandering around a regional common , ditch by owners who could no longer give to care for it . I would select to live under a bridge before I ever desolate any of my horses . fortuitously , in Red ’s case , I did n’t have to make that pick . I am prosperous that Kim and Mike are willing to take Red back because I can no longer afford to keep three horses . Red was the obvious one of the three to go because he had someone to take him . I ’ll need to feel a way to keep give for Milagro andRio , who I hope will be with me for life-time .

I ’m going to miss Red horribly . He is a kind and gentle soul with just a little flake of mischief in him . While he is a literal goofball in the turnout , when it comes to babysitting inexperient rider , he has no couple . He deal attention of small minor or novice grownup , careful never to unseat them or frighten them in any style . Put him in front of cattle with an experienced passenger , and he comes to life . His new twenty-four hours as a work moo-cow cavalry are still live and well in his memory .

Soon , Red will be living on 3 Acre alternatively of my cramp , half - acre dimension . He ’ll be hanging out with two other gelding , which is great because he loves to act as with other horses . He ’ll go on short rides in the nature preserve that march up against Kim and Mike ’s holding and will be showered with honey every day .

know Red will be happy and well worry for the rest of his life help temper the sorrowfulness just a little , but no matter what , I ’m really break down to pretermit him .
